Africa : 41 countries committed to limiting the multifaceted impact of corruption

Since 2018, named the year of the African Union’s fight against corruption, the continent has made significant progress in limiting the impact of this scourge. The fight against financial fraud in Africa will only be won by eliminating illicit financial flows across the continent, according to the Nouakchott Declaration on the African Anti-Corruption Year.

Since 2018, the year of the African Union’s fight against corruption, the continent has made significant progress in limiting the impact of this scourge. In 2022, forty-one countries have ratified the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC) and twenty-five whose commitment against corrupt practices has stood out for internal reforms.

Aware of the fact that the national anti-corruption authorities of Member States play a critical role in the implementation of the regional anti-corruption protocols and the African Union Convention on the prevention and the fight against corruption, the promotion of synergy and alignment of anti-corruption instruments is therefore essential to the achievement of articulation 3 of 2063 Agenda , for an Africa of good governance and rule of law.

The African Union enshrines the involvement of citizens, especially young people, as a pivot in the fight against corruption for the socio-economic and political transformation of Africa. It is mainly a question of sensitizing the people on the dangers of corruption.

By raising awareness of the negative impact of corruption in your community, reporting instances of corruption in your respective countries to relevant anti-corruption agencies and committing to an accountable and transparent lifestyle.

To support the fight against corruption at the national level, the pan-African organization advocates the establishment of a common African position against this phenomenon. The African Union is moving towards greater involvement in strengthening national anti-corruption agencies and related institutions. A commitment that aims to better respond to the challenges of countries in case of financial prevarication.

This commitment and collaboration will go a long way in facilitating the development and implementation of joint programs and projects to further the fight against corruption and thereby reduce adverse effects on the continent for the benefit of African citizens.

The fight against financial fraud in Africa will only be won by eliminating illicit financial flows across the continent, according to the Nouakchott Declaration on the African Anti-Corruption Year. In October 2022, the African Union is planning discussions around boosting comprehensive legal mechanisms to ensure rapid recovery and restitution of stolen assets for the benefit of Member States.
