Africa : Stimulating growth across Africa

From October 16 to 19 2024, Algiers will be hosting CANEX WKND 2024, a flagship event for Africa’s creative industries. Organised by Afreximbank, it brings together creators, designers, musicians, film-makers and political decision-makers to discuss the economic potential of the continent’s creative sectors. The opening ceremony at the Opéra d’Alger and the exhibitions at the Palais des Expositions de la Safex mark the launch of four days of celebration of African creativity.

The opening of the CANEX WKND 2024 at the Algiers Opera highlighted the role of the creative industries as economic drivers for Africa. Afreximbank Chairman Benedict Oramah announced a $2 billion investment to support sectors such as fashion, film and music over the next three years.

We expect to invest up to US$2 billion in the sector over the next three years, targeting all aspects of the industry, from film to music, food and fashion, sport, literature and visual arts.

The Palais des Expositions at Safex saw a strong turnout of African designers. Algerian potter Yasmine La idani hopes the event will open up new markets for her, while South African Innocentia Motahou, promoter of Itu Golf, sees great opportunities in sports tourism.
