Cameroon: tribute to First Lady Chantal Biya, a passionate humanitarian

On 11 January 2025, at the main residence of the Unity Palace, the mood was one of communion, sharing and celebration. The spouses of members of the diplomatic corps, the national constituted body and special guests wished the First Lady of Cameroon, Chantal Biya, a happy new year 2025.  The solemnity, the conversations, the embraces, the gifts of bouquets and presents, the photos taken to immortalise the event, the sharing of food and drink, and the dancing led by a number of musicians, aptly describe the 2025 New Year wishes to the First Lady, Chantal Biya, with the people praising her humanitarian efforts towards the less privileged while expressing their enthusiasm for a better year.

On 11 January 2025, the First Lady of Cameroon repeated her act of good wishes at the Unity Palace in Yaounde. Chantal Biya, First Lady of Cameroon, received New Year’s greetings from the wives of members of the diplomatic corps and members of national institutions. The occasion highlighted the First Lady’s efforts to promote maternal and child health and the development of vulnerable populations.

“I am very happy to be here this afternoon at the Palais de l’Unité, created by the First Lady, Chantal Biya, to welcome all the women from all walks of life, senators, deputies, businesswomen, members of the government, but above all the little people. Yes, that’s why I admire her so much, because you know solidarity, the gift of giving, not everyone can give.”

Françoise Puene, SenatorCameroon

This ceremony in honour of the First Lady comes after a charity tour that began on 23 December 2024, when Chantal Biya, in her capacity as benefactor, visited the Chantal Biya Foundation and the Hospital Centre for Research and Application in Endoscopic Surgery and Human Reproduction. More than a thousand guests came to commune with the First Lady and reaffirm their unwavering support for the presidential couple.

We are really very confident, especially the women mayors, we are very confident that we have a Cameroon full of promises, positive promises and we have faith in our President of the Republic and we love our President Mama Chantal Biya who makes us proud of Cameroon, of the women of Cameroon.

Line Enanga, mayor of the commune of NitoukouCameroon

It should be noted that the event adds to the celebrations that began on 10 January 2025, when members of the diplomatic corps and the national corps presented their New Year wishes for 2025 to the Head of State, Paul Biya. With a total of 28 delegations in attendance, the ceremony was marked by artistic performances and gifts, giving everyone the opportunity to capture the moment with the First Lady in photos.
