Gabon : des militaires annoncent l’annulation des élections et la dissolution de « toutes les institutions »

While announcing the cancellation of the results one of the soldiers announced the dissolution of "all the institutions of the republic".
"We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime", one of the soldiers said on TV channel Gabon 24, adding that he was speaking on behalf of the "Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions".
"To this end, the general elections of 26 August 2023 and the truncated results are cancelled," he added.
"All the institutions of the republic are dissolved: the government, the Senate, the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court," he added, announcing the closure of the country's borders "until further notice".

Des militaires réunis en “Comité de transition et de restauration des institutions” (CTRI) ont annoncé ce 30 août 2023 dans un communiqué lu sur la chaîne de télévision Gabon 24 abritée au sein de la présidence, l’annulation des élections et la dissolution de « toutes les institutions de la République » et la fin du “régime en place”.
Après avoir constaté « une gouvernance irresponsable, imprévisible qui se traduit par une dégradation continue de la cohésion sociale risquant de conduire le pays au chaos (…) nous avons décidé de défendre la paix en mettant fin au régime en place », a déclaré le Comité de transition et de restauration des institutions ».
Ce coup de force intervient quelques minutes après la diffusion des résultats officiels indiquant la victoire d’Ali Bongo avec 64,27% des suffrages exprimés. Son principal challenger, l’opposant Albert Ondo Ossa avait obtenu 30.77%. Il a qualifié les élections de frauduleuses et revendiqué la victoire. Le renversement du président sortant mettrait fin au règne de la famille Bongo qui a duré 53 ans.
« Les frontières sont fermées jusqu’à nouvel ordre » selon la déclaration du Comité de transition et de restauration des institutions.
