René Awambeng awarded for his contribution in growing the influence of Afreximbank

René Awambeng, of Cameroonian origin, Global Head of Customer Relations at the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), was awarded Friday October 27, 2023 in London at the Powerlist Black Excellence Awards 2024, an event which rewards each year actors from Great Britain originally from Africa, who contribute to the influence of African, Afro-American and Afro-Caribbean excellence.

The African Export-Import Bank, crowned best multilateral development bank in 2022 by Trade Finance Global, sees one of its leaders honored internationally. René Awambeng, Global Head of Customer Relations at Afreximbank, was awarded the Global Executive Leader award in London for his influence and impact within the bank. The distinction was presented during the Powerlist Black Excellence Awards 2024, organized at Buckingham Palace in the presence of King Charles III, King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

I am passionate about serving Africa at Afreximbank and this award is recognition of the transformational process, work and our contribution to positive change in Africa. At Afreximbank, we consider the diaspora to be the 56th country in Africa. This award is a privilege and should inspire young men and women to work hard and strive for change.

Originating from Cameroun, René Awambeng, holds an MBA from the Business School of the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, London. He joined Afreximbank in 2016 from pan-African banking group Ecobank, where for four years he was Group Head of Corporate, Regional Corporate and Commodity Finance, Corporate and Investment Banking, with operations in various countries including France and the United Kingdom. At Afreximbank, René Awambeng has been responsible since 2016, among other things, for managing the operation of the Bank’s branches and relations with governments.

The African Export-Import Bank is a bank that finances African trade, either through direct financing, through credits or through guarantees or through advice. We also finance infrastructure projects, major infrastructure projects in Africa, to facilitate this trade between Africa.
