In response to the devastating drought hitting Zambia and threatening the livelihoods of countless farmers, the World Bank announced on March 2, 2024 its commitment to mobilizing resources to help those affected. The institution assured the Zambian community of its support in these difficult times, saying it would not only provide support to farmers who have lost their crops, but would also provide social protection and opportunities to households to reduce the burden of food shortages. This follows the state of emergency declared by the Zambian government on March 1 to facilitate a rapid response to the prolonged drought threatening the country’s food security.
