Africa : George Elombi Begins His Tenure as President of Afreximbank

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has officially closed its two-day Farewell and Investiture Ceremony at the St. Regis Al Masa Convention Centre in Cairo, Egypt. The event, which ended on Saturday, October 25, 2025, honoured outgoing president Professor Benedict Oramah and welcomed Dr. George Elombi as the new president of the Bank.

The closing ceremony marked the end of a Professor Benedict Oramah and welcomed Dr. George Elombi as the new president of the Bank.

In his speech, Dr. George Elombi praised his predecessor’s work and promised to build on it. “Oramah has turned decades-old dreams into real progress. As we move forward, we remain committed to building Africa’s productive power,” he said. Dr. Elombi also reaffirmed his commitment to support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and promote sustainable industrial growth.

We will encourage and accelerate the creation of added value and the strategic processing of minerals. We will strive to end the export of our raw potential by transforming what we produce, creating regional value chains, and fostering local industries. We can create jobs, and we will create the right jobs across the continent, thereby stimulating growth throughout Africa.
