
United Bank for Africa (UBA), Africa’s Global Bank, has announced the appointment of Loknath Mishra as Chief Executive Officer of UBA UK, effective from February 2, 2026, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to expanding its international footprint and enhancing the UK subsidiary’s role in supporting trade and investment flows between Africa and the rest of the world.
This appointment forms part of the Group’s strategy to strengthen its international presence and position UBA UK as a strategic platform connecting Africa to global markets.
In his new role, Loknath Mishra will focus on establishing the UK subsidiary as a centre of excellence in regulatory compliance, customer service and financial resilience, while further strengthening UBA’s leadership in trade finance, transaction banking and correspondent banking. Commenting on the appointment, Oliver Alawuba, Group Managing Director of United Bank for Africa, highlighted that Loknath Mishra’s extensive international banking experience, strong regulatory credibility and deep expertise in wholesale and transaction banking represent key strengths in advancing UBA UK as a flagship subsidiary and reinforcing UBA’s role as a financial bridge between Africa and the global economy.
Loknath Mishra brings several decades of international banking experience and has led regulated financial institutions across the United Kingdom and Europe. Prior to joining UBA, he served as Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank UK, where he strengthened governance, regulatory engagement and operational resilience.
Upon assuming office, Loknath Mishra expressed his commitment to strengthening UBA UK’s platform and supporting trade, investment and financial flows between Africa and the rest of the world.
