Niger : strengthened security cooperation with Libya

As part of strengthening bilateral relations, Niger’s Prime Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, received a Libyan delegation in Niamey on April 16, 2026. The discussions, covering political, economic, and security matters, focused on consolidating cooperation between the two countries, with particular attention to regional stability and the management of cross-border flows. Security cooperation between Niamey and Tripoli is part of an ongoing process initiated in the early 2010s and reinforced by agreements, notably in 2021, on labor and migration management. It pursues a dual objective: combating terrorism and controlling migratory movements.
