On Wednesday 22 April, the Pope presided over a solemn Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, one of the country’s most iconic churches, as part of his apostolic visit to Equatorial Guinea.
On the second day of his apostolic journey to Equatorial Guinea, Pope Leo XIV presided over Mass on 22 April at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Mongomo, a town located in eastern Equatorial Guinea on the border with Gabon. The Mass was celebrated in the presence of the President of the Republic, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Vice-President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue and a large congregation. The gathering illustrates the central role of the Catholic Church in Equatorial Guinean society.
