Tanzania : 4.8 tons of contaminated milk destroyed

In Tanzania, health authorities in Zanzibar destroyed 4.8 tons of contaminated infant milk, preventing a potential public health crisis in the archipelago. The operation was carried out on May 4, 2026, by the Zanzibar Food and Drug Agency following an alert from Nestlé regarding defective batches. This rapid intervention, conducted in coordination with local distributors, aimed to prevent severe poisoning cases that could have led to serious or even fatal complications in infants. Authorities stated that only SMA No. 1 batches were affected, while other products remain safe.
