Cameroon celebrated the 54th edition of its National Unity Day on May 20, 2026. As tradition dictates, the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, presided over the traditional military and civilian parade at the May 20 Boulevard. The event was marked by the participation of the Chadian army, guest of honor for this year’s edition. The celebrations were held under the theme: “National unity, pillar of our defense and foundation of Cameroon’s development.”

Defense and security forces, police officers, civilians, students and socio-professional organizations marched in keeping with republican tradition. In Yaoundé, the traditional military and civilian parade held on May 20 Boulevard was presided over by Head of State Paul Biya. The Chadian army, guest of honor for this year’s edition, also took part in the festivities, symbolizing regional cooperation in defense and security matters. Beyond the political dimension, this year’s May 20 celebration is also marked by a stated commitment to strengthen the inclusion of young people and women in decision-making processes, a promise made by the President of the Republic that continues to raise expectations among the public.
