USD 5.75 billion in trade exchanges between Morocco and the United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has positioned Morocco as a strategic post-Brexit priority, with a firm ambition to double bilateral trade within the next seven years. In 2024, bilateral trade had already reached GBP 4.2 billion, equivalent to approximately USD 5.75 billion, driven largely by the energy and automotive sectors. This partnership has been further strengthened by a significant increase in foreign direct investment, which reached USD 3.09 billion in 2025. Morocco is increasingly establishing itself as a stable regional hub, offering major opportunities in mobility, transportation, and green energy. The organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup is serving as a catalyst, creating substantial opportunities for the development of national infrastructure. Furthermore, the British Minister of State expressed the United Kingdom’s desire to work closely with Morocco as a strategic partner to ensure the success of major sporting events, particularly the 2030 FIFA World Cup, during the Moroccan-British Business Forum held on 2–3 June 2026.

The partnership between Morocco and the United Kingdom has emerged as a strategic priority, with the goal of doubling bilateral trade within the next seven years. In 2024, trade between the two countries reached USD 5.75 billion, driven by the automotive and energy sectors. Morocco’s attractiveness as an investment destination is underscored by a significant increase in foreign direct investment (FDI), which rose from USD 1.6 billion to USD 3.09 billion between 2024 and 2025. Morocco is strengthening its position as a stable hub in the mobility, transportation, and renewable energy sectors. The United Kingdom, seeking new opportunities in the post-Brexit landscape, is leveraging these structural transformations to deepen bilateral ties. This momentum is further supported by major infrastructure projects associated with the organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

They came to create new opportunities and also to benefit from the new transformations that Morocco is experiencing today. The challenge is to strengthen these relations so that young people can benefit from them. Our ambition is to establish a balanced partnership and a shared objective: to enhance trade exchanges between the two countries.

However, this relationship goes beyond a purely transactional framework and is increasingly focused on large-scale infrastructure partnerships. During his visit, the United Kingdom’s Minister for Trade, Chris Bryant, highlighted this enthusiasm while leading a delegation of 50 specialized companies, comparing the economic potential of the United Kingdom to that of California.

We view Morocco as a land of opportunity, somewhat comparable to the State of California, particularly at this stage as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup. I am here accompanied by 50 companies specializing in the organization of major events, and we wish to work with Morocco to contribute to the success of this event. We have also set ourselves a new objective: to double the volume of trade between Morocco and the United Kingdom over the next five to seven years.

These companies have come to learn more about the projects being undertaken by the Kingdom in connection with the FIFA World Cup. These include infrastructure projects, mobility initiatives, energy projects, and transportation developments. It is an opportunity for businesses from both countries to get to know each other and explore potential areas of collaboration around the projects we are developing in Morocco. It is also an opportunity for Moroccan companies to gain a better understanding of the projects and opportunities available in the United Kingdom.

Mehdi Tazi, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM)

Moreover, Morocco and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their intention to continue strengthening their bilateral relations, notably following the United Kingdom’s historic decision to join the growing number of over 130 countries supporting Morocco’s autonomy plan aimed at ending the conflict over Western Sahara.
