Business – Morocco : USD 21.2 billion in exports per year in the industry sector

The Kingdom is asserting its growing industrial influence across the continent, with annual exports totalling approximately US$21.2 billion. This success, the result of a long-term vision, establishes the country as a strategic hub between Africa and Europe.

Morocco has now established itself as the leading industrial power on the African continent. According to the African Development Bank’s 2025 Industrialisation Index, the Kingdom has overtaken South Africa for the first time, confirming the growing strength of its economic model. Driven by an ambitious industrial strategy, the country relies on modern infrastructure and strong attractiveness to international investors, making it an essential platform between Europe and Africa.

“Today, many African countries have equipped themselves with highly interesting industrial capabilities, particularly in relation to energy and extractive industries. Morocco, for its part, has implemented a strategy built on several plans guided by an extremely ambitious Royal Vision. This index recognises not only our trajectory, but also the diversification and sophistication of our industrial performance. Morocco is now regarded as the country with the best industrial performance in Africa. And when we see that 87% of the value of our exports consists of manufactured products, we can already consider ourselves an industrialised country.”

RYAD MEZZOUR, Minister of Industry and Trade – Morocco

The result of strategic choices made over more than twenty years, Morocco’s industry excels in phosphates, aeronautics, and automotive manufacturing. The automotive sector alone produces more than 600,000 vehicles per year, generating 195 billion dirhams (approximately USD 21.2 billion) in export revenues.

“Perhaps twenty years ago the task was much more difficult because we were still building the foundations. Today, we are capitalising on ecosystems that already exist. There were ecosystems in tourism, for example, but twenty years ago there was no automotive industry. Today, we have two major manufacturers and nearly 260 international companies operating in the sector.”

ALI SEDDIKI, Director General of AMDIE – Morocco

The aeronautics industry, meanwhile, brings together more than 140 companies. This success is built on integrated ecosystems that attract multinational corporations and stimulate local subcontracting activities.

“The industrial sector has positioned itself as a genuine engine of the Kingdom’s economic development. It holds a significant place in terms of its contribution to national wealth and ranks third as a provider of employment after agriculture and trade. This vital role in the national economy places the industrial sector firmly at the heart of sustainability challenges.”

LEILA BENALI, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development – Morocco

The Kingdom is strengthening its status as a leading industrial hub in Africa, driven by a rigorous sectoral policy and large-scale investment projects. This dynamism enables Morocco to integrate further into global production networks while asserting itself as a key industrial player on the continent.
