Gabon has taken a further step towards modernising its armed forces with the delivery of twenty Panthera T8 armoured tactical vehicles donated by the United Arab Emirates. As well as strengthening the operational capabilities of the Gabonese army, this donation illustrates the strategic rapprochement between Libreville and Abu Dhabi and could pave the way for further economic, diplomatic and security cooperation.
Gabon is continuing the modernisation of its defence forces with the delivery, on 27 July 2026, of twenty Panthera T8 tactical armoured vehicles donated by the United Arab Emirates. Designed to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Defence and Security Forces, these vehicles will improve mobility, personnel protection and intervention capabilities across the country. Beyond their military value, these armoured vehicles symbolise the strengthening of strategic cooperation between the two countries, at a time when Gabon is seeking to diversify its international partnerships.

Designed for security operations, patrol missions and interventions in sensitive environments, the Panthera T8 vehicles strengthen Gabon’s logistical and operational capabilities in response to current security challenges. This donation is part of a broader military equipment modernisation drive launched by the Gabonese authorities to develop forces that are more mobile, better protected and better equipped to address emerging threats. It also reflects the United Arab Emirates’ desire to strengthen defence cooperation with several African countries through partnerships based on knowledge sharing, technical assistance and capacity-building support.

Driven by the official visit of the Head of State to Abu Dhabi in February 2026, this momentum has been strengthened by the opening of diplomatic representations in both capitals. This closer relationship paves the way for cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, energy, logistics, investment and trade, with the aim of supporting Gabon’s economic growth and strengthening its regional influence.
