Benin : Activist Julien Kandé Kansou Pardoned by President Romuald Wadagni

Beninese President Romuald Wadagni granted his first presidential pardon on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day on August 1. Among those pardoned was opposition activist Julien Kandé Kansou, who had been sentenced to two years in prison over social media posts. Detained since June 2025, he was released after more than a year in custody, alongside several hundred other inmates convicted of common-law offenses.
