Sixty-six years after gaining independence, Côte d’Ivoire celebrates its journey, achievements, and future ambitions on August 7, 2026. This commemoration is marked by peace, unity, and development. With sustained economic growth estimated at around 6.5% in 2025, a population of over 32 million, and a GDP approaching $100 billion, the leading economy of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) continues its transformation through major investments in infrastructure, agriculture, mining, and services.

Our economy remains dynamic, with one of the highest annual growth rates in the region and the world, confirming the strength of its fundamentals. This performance is only meaningful if it tangibly improves the lives of our citizens. » That is why we will continue our efforts to strengthen access to drinking water, electricity, healthcare, quality education, housing, and ever-improving public services.

For this 66th edition, the celebration takes on a special dimension with its organization in the municipality of Yopougon, one of the largest municipalities in Abidjan, with over one million inhabitants. This symbolic choice reflects a desire to bring the national holiday closer to the people and strengthen social cohesion. Under the theme « Defense and Security Forces, at the Service of Peace, Unity, and Development, » this commemoration highlights the strategic role of the national forces in protecting the territory, in a regional context marked by security challenges. The parade, which mobilizes several thousand members of the Defense and Security Forces, illustrates the State’s commitment to preserving stability, an essential condition for economic and social development.

The international dimension is highlighted during this edition by the participation of military delegations from Gabon, Benin, and India, demonstrating Côte d’Ivoire’s diplomatic and security influence. With Gabon, bilateral trade exceeded 13 billion CFA francs in 2024, illustrating the strength of African partnerships. By 2030, Côte d’Ivoire aims to accelerate its industrialization, diversify its economy, and strengthen its human capital. Through its National Development Plan 2026-2030, the country aims for average growth of 7.2% per year, more jobs and a sustainable reduction in poverty.
