The number of Islamic State fighters in Somalia is now estimated at between 150 and 250, down from 1,200 to 1,500 in 2025, according to a UN Security Council report. More than 900 members of the group are believed to have been killed since the beginning of 2025 in operations conducted by Puntland forces and the United States, but the organization remains a security threat.
