The ANC has approached South Africa’s Constitutional Court to challenge the exclusion of 181 candidates from the November 4 local elections, attributing the situation to a technical failure in the IEC’s electronic system during the candidate nomination process. The party maintains that it met the legal deadline and is seeking an urgent ruling, following the Electoral Court’s dismissal of its appeal. The IEC, for its part, has certified 136,790 candidates and disqualified 5,096.
