Morocco : 395 seats renewed in parliament

In Morocco, the new legislative term begins amidst several major challenges. In a speech delivered on October 9 in Rabat, Mohammed VI called for rethinking migration cooperation with Spain, accelerating economic reforms, and strengthening decentralization to better meet citizens’ expectations.

King Mohammed VI is calling for a rethinking of migration cooperation between Morocco and its partners, particularly Spain. In a speech delivered on October 9, 2026, at the opening of the parliamentary session in Rabat, the monarch stated that the current model has reached its limits. He pointed to obsolete legal provisions and judicial decisions that complicate the repatriation of certain migrants. Morocco plans to present a new strategic vision to its partners, centered on co-development, economic competitiveness, and regional stability.

“We must acknowledge, with courage and objectivity, that the current model of cooperation has reached its limits, as clearly evidenced by recurring crises. Morocco will present a document to its partners outlining a clear, practical strategic vision—one that introduces a new direction aimed at fostering co-development, economic competitiveness, and regional stability.”

Following the legislative elections of September 23, 2026—which saw the renewal of all 395 seats in the House of Representatives—King Mohammed VI is calling for an economic and social turning point. The Authenticity and Modernity Party secured 97 seats, ahead of the National Rally of Independents (66) and the Istiqlal Party (65). The Sovereign advocates for new strategies in the water, energy, industrial, and artificial intelligence sectors. He also emphasizes the importance of job creation, private investment, and the professional integration of young people.

“We expect the new legislative and governmental term to mark a genuine turning point for a Morocco committed to pursuing its ambition of becoming a reliable, emerging economic power, while remaining equally dedicated to striking a harmonious balance between the drivers of economic growth and the imperatives of enhanced social and spatial justice.”
