The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has responded to the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl, donating more than half a million US dollars to aid relief and reconstruction efforts in countries in the Caribbean which have been hit hard. In a press release issued on September 4, Afreximbank said the money should be used to contribute to disaster relief and reconstruction efforts in hard-hit Caribbean countries.
While Hurricane Beryl severely devastated the Grenadian islands of Carriacou and
Martinique, as well as several islands in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, including Union Island and Mayreau, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) responded favorably to distress calls from these devastated countries. Afreximbank thus donated more than 500,000 US dollars to these countries affected by Hurricane Beryl.
“It must be said that this is a situation that is cyclical and this contribution comes at the right time. But it must also be said that the second phase which concerns reconstruction will allow the country from a structural point of view to recover.”

In a press release issued on September 4, 2024, the institution said that this donation is expected to contribute to disaster relief and reconstruction efforts in hard-hit Caribbean countries. Note that the countries concerned are part of the 11 countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
“It is desirable that other initiatives follow those of Afreximbank and that at the regional and continental level a lot of support comes for the Caribbean countries.”

Recall that Afreximbank, a pan-African multilateral financial institution, in addition to executing its trade and development mandate, also takes proactive measures to help countries address global climate and health emergencies.
