Côte d’Ivoire is once again emerging as a strategic crossroads for African broadcasting. From 19 to 20 June 2025, Abidjan will host the 16th General Assembly of the African Broadcasting Union (ABU). This flagship event will bring together the major players in the audiovisual sector to map out its digital and financial future and lay the foundations for a resilient and innovative African media.
Enhancing media development: strategies for financial and technological resilience and innovative content. This is the main objective of the 16th General Assembly of the African Broadcasting Union (AUB), which officially opened on 19 June 2025 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in the presence of the Ivorian authorities, African broadcasting stakeholders and international partners. At the heart of the discussions will be the challenges of the digital transition and ensuring the financial resilience of the continent’s media.
« The media represent a real opportunity for our countries. We are counting on you to preserve and strengthen this asset, through the consultation framework that is being offered to you. It is from this dialogue that the right answers to our questions will emerge. «
ROBERT BEUGRÉ MAMBÉ, Prime Minister – Côte d’Ivoire
« When you take a good look at our panels, you realise that we have a good mix of academics, professionals, civil society and even our listeners. All this should enable us to make some progress in controlling our space. Because today we are talking about writing the history of Africa. We need to change the way we talk.
Grégoire Ndjaka, Managing Director of AUB – Cameroon
These panels, focusing on the mechanisms for adapting the media to the challenges of the digital transition, financial resilience, media education and content innovation, should produce concrete responses.
« This is an opportunity for us to discuss the challenges, particularly those relating to the funding of public media, digital transition, regulatory, technical and financial constraints, etc. Technology is evolving at a rapid pace and all African media must try to exchange ideas to find appropriate solutions to the constraints I have just mentioned. «
ADAMA OUEDRAOGA , RTV Technical Council – Burkina Faso
It should be noted that this 16th edition of the African Broadcasting Union General Assembly will end with the presentation of projects, the adoption of the 2025 budget and the Awards evening, rewarding audiovisual excellence on the continent. This meeting of the AUB in Abidjan marks a decisive turning point for the African audiovisual sector, which is resilient and ambitious on the world stage.
