Benin has officially asked France to return 35 cultural artifacts taken during the colonial period, including the statue of the god Gou and the throne of King Toffa of Porto-Novo. The request follows the return of 26 royal treasures from Abomey in 2021 and is part of Benin’s ongoing efforts to recover its cultural heritage.
