The new Diamniadio site, located 30 kilometers from Dakar, the capital of Senegal, is emerging as the nerve center of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, bringing together elite infrastructure such as the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium, the Dakar Arena, and the Exhibition Center. This multi-sport and technology hub is strategically located alongside major institutions like Amadou Makhtar Mbow University and the CICAD (International Center for Diamniadio Arts and Culture). The result of public-private partnerships initiated in 2014, the site is transforming the Senegalese urban landscape into an international hub of services and knowledge. Beyond the competitions, the project aims to leave a lasting and modern legacy for the country’s youth. This synergy between sport, education, and diplomacy is positioning Senegal as a leader in Africa’s development.
In Senegal, the urban center of Diamniadio is emerging as the sporting heart of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, boasting world-class infrastructure just 30 kilometers from the capital. The Abdoulaye Wade Stadium will host the opening ceremony and archery events, while the Dakar Arena will resonate with the energy of badminton and futsal. The Dakar Expo Center will serve as a multi-purpose venue for numerous disciplines, while also acting as a central hub for media and technology. This modern complex embodies a strategic vision aimed at leaving a lasting legacy for Senegalese youth. The entire site reflects Senegal’s ambition to position itself as a major sporting hub on the African continent.
“You are listening to a story that began on May 24, 2014. It has been 11 years since we started developing this hub with the Senegalese government, which has been the main investor in making the land attractive, allowing the private sector to invest and develop within the hub in an economically sound manner. It is therefore through public-private partnerships that the Diamniadio urban hub has been created.”
Seydou Sy Sall., General Delegate for Planning of the Diamniadio Urban Hub – Senegal
This new, modern hub is strategically located alongside key institutions such as Amadou Makhtar Mbow University, the CICAD (International Center for Diamniadio Arts and Culture), and the United Nations headquarters, thus fostering a knowledge economy and sustainable urban transformation. Driven by public-private partnerships, this site embodies Senegal’s ambition to become a major multi-service and sports hub on the African continent.
“The United Nations headquarters is located here. The building you see here is the National Institute of Petroleum and Gas, because Senegal is looking to develop its oil and gas sector. Behind it, you have the Diamniadio Digital Technology Park, a data center that you have partnered with Amadou Makhtar Mbow University to promote the knowledge economy. If you go to the 3rd district, you have the freight terminal, the international market, and the Aprosi park, designed to foster the growth of employment. But a city is also about combining all the services, and it was also necessary to give the population access to certain services, such as banks, insurance companies, and other essential amenities.”
Seydou Sy Sall, General Delegate for Planning of the Diamniadio Urban Hub – Senegal
In addition to these infrastructures, the Diamniadio Equestrian Center perfectly embodies the country’s transformation, with facilities designed to host international show jumping competitions.
“The complex includes reception areas, facilities for leisure activities, areas for sporting events, and areas for housing the horses. This year will allow us to celebrate the horse, while combining fun, sport, and all the principles that place Olympism at the heart of humanity.”
Mbacké Niang, Architect – Senegal
This synergy between public investment and private dynamism now allows Senegal to position itself as an “African sports hub,” ready to welcome the 2,700 young athletes expected for this historic celebration of the Dakar Youth Olympic Games.
