Eritrea has been elected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for a three-year term beginning in January 2027. Chosen by the UN General Assembly among 18 new members, the country will take part in the work of the body responsible for economic, social and sustainable development issues. The election strengthens Asmara’s diplomatic presence within the UN system, following its recent appointment as Vice-President of the 81st session of the General Assembly.
