Africa: Morocco Elected Commissioner of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy

Morocco has been unanimously elected Commissioner of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy (AFCONE) for a three-year term during the 7th Conference of States Parties to the Pelindaba Treaty, held in Addis Ababa. The election reflects recognition of the Kingdom’s role in promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, particularly in healthcare, agriculture, and food security. AFCONE is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Pelindaba Treaty, which establishes Africa as a nuclear-weapon-free zone.
