Africa : UN calls for protection of civilians and humanitarian workers

UN calls for stronger protection of civilians and humanitarian workers in West and Central Africa amid a surge in violence. According to OCHA, 15,352 people were killed between January and the end of July 2026, while five humanitarian workers were killed, nine injured and 14 abducted since the beginning of the year. The UN also warned about the growing use of armed drones and declining funding, which are further limiting access to vulnerable populations.
