In Algeria, the national agency for the promotion of foreign trade (ALGEX) announced on November 14, 2024 the launch of a direct maritime line for the transport of goods between Algeria and Qatar. Initiated by the Algerian National Maritime Transport Company (CNAN), this project is set up to facilitate and boost trade between the two countries. In the opinion of certain experts, Algerian companies will have a regular and direct means to transport their products to the Qatari markets, thus offering a faster and more efficient alternative to existing logistics circuits.

We have defined priorities, outlined common objectives in order to direct our efforts towards well-defined projects that can be the subject of partnership in the perspective of revitalizing trade between our two countries. All these axes have been examined and studied to move to this  execution phase.

Tayeb Zitouni, Minister of Trade and Export Promotion

According to Algerian Minister of Trade and Export Promotion Tayeb Zitouni, in 2023, the amount of trade between the two countries was 80 million USD, a figure which, according to him, does not fully reflect the strength of political relations and economic relations between Algeria and Qatar. According to the Algerian authorities, Qatar is a booming economy and has a growing demand for diversified products, representing an interesting opportunity for Algerian exporters.

The presence of Algerian companies in Qatar helps strengthen bilateral cooperation between our two countries. The presence of Qatari representatives from the private sector also strengthens Algerian-Qatari economic complementarity.

Mohamed Hussein El Malaki, Representative of the Ministry of Trade and Industry

With this project, the Algerian authorities wish to offer local companies access to new markets, which could help boost the national economy. The maritime line between Algeria and Doha thus marks a new stage in economic cooperation between the two countries, with promising prospects for future trade.
