Burkina Faso – Public Transport: Vista Bank supports the acquisition of 530 new buses for SOTRACO

530 buses and one ambition: To improve the daily lives of Burkinabe citizens through smoother and more accessible mobility. This is the ambition declared by the government on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. A historic turning point was reached with the official handover of 375 new buses to the public transport company SOTRACO. This investment, supported by Vista Bank Burkina, aims to alleviate congestion on the main roads of major cities and facilitate transportation for students.

Lined up like a parade, these 375 vehicles make up the second batch of a large acquisition program of more than 500 vehicles financed in partnership with Vista Bank Burkina. After an initial delivery of 155 buses last August, this new fleet triples the capacity of the public transport company.

On behalf of our comrade President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, I hereby hand over this second batch of 375 buses, completing the total batch of 530 buses promised by the President of Faso. Use them properly, with discipline and professionalism, so that this historic batch of 530 buses sustainably strengthens SOTRACO’s fleet and radically improves mobility for Burkinabè citizens as a whole, throughout Burkina Faso, and especially for pupils and students.

Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, Prime Minister

To implement its vision for transport and urban mobility, the Burkinabè government is working with key financial partners such as Vista Bank, an entity belonging to Vista Group Holding led by Simon Tiemtoré. The institution, which finances numerous development projects within the WAEMU zone, provided financial support amounting to 44.865 billion CFA francs for the acquisition of SOTRACO’s new buses.

The Vista banking group is fully aligned with this framework and is supporting the State in its momentum and in the implementation of the National Economic and Social Development Plan initiated by the Head of State.

Simon Tiemtoré , President of Vista Group Holding

To further support urban mobility, SOTRACO’s share capital was increased from 800 million to 5 billion CFA francs, with the State becoming the majority shareholder at nearly 90%.

It is with great satisfaction that we received this morning, or rather today, from His Excellency the Prime Minister, the keys to 375 buses, in addition to the 155 that were received at the same location last August. This is a great satisfaction.  Public transport is a very important public service for us, and this once again shows that the mobility of our populations is close to the heart of the Head of State, particularly that of pupils and students, who are a key link in the development of our country.

Emile ZERBO, Minister of Territorial Administration and Mobility

With this deployment, Ouagadougou and the country’s major cities are getting a new lease on life. The remaining challenge is maintenance, a point on which SOTRACO’s management says it has already taken rigorous measures.
