The National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) has announced that Burundi’s presidential election will be held on May 3, 2027. In the event of a second round, it is scheduled for June 1, while the swearing-in ceremony of the elected president will take place on June 18, 2027, the head of the institution, Prosper Ntahorwamiye, said during a meeting with electoral partners. In this context, the ruling party CNDD-FDD has already nominated, at the end of April, incumbent President Évariste Ndayishimiye as its candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
