Under the theme « Social dialogue and dignified work for a Cameroon at peace », Cameroon, like the rest of the world, celebrated Labour Day on 1 May 2025 across the country. In a speech marking the 139th International Labour Day, the country’s Minister of Labour, Grégoire Owona, praised the courage of Cameroon’s workers and the progress they have made in recent years, while outlining President Paul Biya’s plan to make Cameroon a country where everyone has opportunities, enjoys a good quality of life and participates in society.
On 1 May 2025, Cameroon, like the rest of the world, celebrated the 139th International Labour Day. Under the theme ‘Social dialogue and decent work for a peaceful Cameroon’, the celebrations across the country were marked by a vibrant demonstration of unity and resilience offering an opportunity to review the achievements of Cameroonian workers and to take stock of the challenges they face.
Social dialogue is a fundamental pillar and decent work remains our main objective in our emerging Cameroon despite the constraints and difficulties of the moment we must remain resilient and achieve our objectives.

Decked out in colourful uniforms with banners representing their institutions, workers from the public and private sectors marched in solidarity along the 20 May Boulevard in Yaounde. Speaking to mark the celebration of Labour Day in the Central African Country, the Minister of Labor and Social security Grégoire Owona praised the courage of Cameroon’s workers and the progress they have made in recent years.
