Cameroon – 2025 Presidential Election: : Paul Biya’s candidacy submitted to Elecam

On 17 July, outgoing President Paul Biya filed his candidacy for the presidential election of 12 October 2025. Vying for another term, he will face six other candidates already registered by Elections Cameroon, in an election that promises to be decisive for Cameroon’s political future.

It’s now official: outgoing President Paul Biya is standing as a candidate to succeed himself in the presidential election on 12 October 2025. The candidacy of the Head of State was lodged on Thursday 17 July at the headquarters of ELECAM, the electoral body, in Yaoundé. He was represented by Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, Director of the Civil Cabinet, and Jean Nkuete, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the ruling CPDM party.

“We have just submitted the file of the National Chairman of the CPDM for the post of President of the Republic. Being aware that the Cameroonian people are mature enough to know the difference between what has been done, what is in the process of being done and what is proposed to be done, this awareness will lead them to give the Head of State the big score we want. »

These two personalities then went to the Constitutional Council to deposit a copy against a receipt. This filing follows the announcement of the candidacy of the Head of State in the forthcoming presidential election.

This candidacy puts an end to the numerous speculations about a possible withdrawal, fuelled for several months by certain observers of the political scene. According to supporters of the Head of State, this gesture reaffirms his commitment to continuing to build a ‘stable, united and prosperous’ Cameroon

Six other candidates are already in the running.  They include Joshua Osih of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), Kisob Bertin, candidate of the Cameroon Party for Social Justice (CPSJ), Muna Akere Tabeng, representative of the UNIVERS party, Kamgan-Tan Eric, standard-bearer of the Libération Démocratique pour le Changement Républicain Camerounais (LDCRC), Gwet Jean Blaise, of the Mouvement Patriotique Pour le Changement du Cameroun (MPCC), and Ze Amvene Geneviève, independent candidate.

All are defending alternative projects based on the country’s key challenges: economic recovery, fair distribution of the fruits of growth, security, social justice and institutional reform.
