Cameroon – Artists Redefine Hotel Spaces : Yaoundé’s Visual Artists Reimagine Hospitality Spaces

When hospitality meets creative genius, the result is a stunning visual transformation. At Kolo Hotel in Yaounde,  a collective of artists has taken over the space to create a unique artistic setting, featuring large-scale murals and sculptures. Let’s take a closer look at this artistic transformation.

With paintbrushes, carefully selected pigments and meticulously crafted artificial rocks, activity is in full swing at the Kolo Hotel in Yaoundé. The three-member visual arts collective Fantastic Art has taken on the ambitious task of transforming selected spaces through a raw and authentic artistic approach. Beyond decoration, the artists sculpt textures, recreate natural forms and reshape spaces, giving the hotel a unique visual identity inspired by its surroundings.

“We are currently working on a major project at Kolo Hotel, creating murals and developing various creative ideas to promote Cameroonian art. We have used different types of paint, including glossy and semi-gloss finishes, for the murals. We have also worked extensively with cement to create structures, artificial stones, rock formations and masks.”

Beyond the artistic achievement, the project also carries a deeper purpose. By bringing their talents together, the artists aim to create a platform for sharing their skills and passing on practical knowledge to the younger generation.

“Our vision is to build a strong foundation and platform where the younger generation can receive proper training, not only in theory but also through hands-on experience, sharing the practical skills and expertise we have developed as a group.”

An artistic initiative praised by the hotel’s management, which made the bold decision to entrust its visual identity to the raw talent of local artists.

“To connect with the artist you met, who is responsible for the murals in the garage and on the hotel walls, Madam has a keen eye for decoration and a strong appreciation for local craftsmanship. This is reflected in the materials selected and the overall design. Her vision was truly to showcase the luxury of Cameroonian hospitality.”

Antoine Raffa, Food and Beverage Manager – France

By enhancing its architecture and reflecting the region’s cultural identity, Kolo Hotel has made a bold commitment to local art, giving artists a platform to shape the capital’s cultural landscape.
