To improve the quality of consular services, the Cameroonian authorities are building a digital transformation center. Launched on April 16, 2024 by Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, with the laying of the foundation stone, the project is designed to secure and computerize services, but above all to guarantee quality service to applicants.
Having embarked on a process of modernizing its public administration several years ago, Cameroon is stepping up initiatives to digitalize services offered to users. This is the case at the Ministry of External Relations (Minrex), where construction work on the MINREX Digital Transformation Center was officially launched on April 16, 2024 in Yaoundé. The infrastructure should enable Cameroon’s diplomatic services to secure data from the various consular services, modernize its activities, and speed up the processing of files in order to guarantee quality service to users in Cameroon and the rest of the world.
« The MINREX digital transformation center is really an ultimate solution that will be a key element to guarantee a secure digitalization of procedures so as to be able to control backup data through a biometric structure ».
Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations – Cameroon
The construction of the MINREX digital transformation center will also enable the State of Cameroon to strengthen its sovereignty in terms of diplomatic and consular data storage. This project follows on from the Evisa project, whose merits include securing consular revenues for the State’s treasury, simplifying procedures and making Cameroon a more attractive destination. 157,668 visitor visas were issued between April 30, 2023 and March 30, 2024.
“Sécuring consular data is a key element in national and international strategies to fight against crime, cybercrime, terrorism and many others. Mismanagement of consular data could become powerful tools in the hands of malicious individuals. It is therefore absolutely essential to to guarantee procedures and processes that safeguard the security of our state.«
Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations – Cameroon
Construction work on MINREX’s digital transformation center, to be carried out by Impact Palmares, is scheduled to last one year, until April 2025.
