In Cameroon, President Paul Biya’s top priority is to maintain peace and security throughout the nation. The Head of State has vowed to combat Boko Haram and other armed groups in the north-west and south-west regions, reaffirming that Cameroon will remain ‘one and indivisible.
As Cameroon prepares to commemorate its 53rd National Unity Day on 20 May 2025, maintaining national peace and security remains a top priority for Cameroonian President Paul Biya. The Head of State has pledged to fight Boko Haram and other armed groups in the North-West and South-West regions of the country, reaffirming that Cameroon will remain ‘one and indivisible’.
Cameroon will remain one and indivisible. Such is the wish of the overwhelming majority of our compatriots. This is the very essence of the mandate given to me. And I will never fail to deliver on it.
Paul Biya, President of the Republic
While recognising the progress made by the defence forces in combating these threats, President Biya, in his 2025 New Year’s message to the nation, welcomed efforts to disarm, demobilise and reintegrate former combatants, and urged the remaining armed groups to embrace peace, while warning them of the consequences of continued violence. His commitment to improving security in urban and rural areas has given hope to those affected by crime, particularly in the troubled north-west and south-west.
I have also noted that the reconstruction of the North-West and South-West Regions is progressing, despite the atrocities being committed by some armed gangs, which continue to target mainly the civilian population. It can never be overemphasized that the separatist cause championed by these purportedly enlightened beings is doomed to failure.
Paul Biya, President of the Republic
Reiterating his commitment to national unity, progress and peace, President Paul Biya also urged peaceful and mature behaviour during the electoral process, as the country prepares for presidential and regional elections.
