The Indomitable Lionesses, champions of the 2026 African Women’s Nations Cup, were received by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, and his wife at the Unity Palace on 22 August. It was a solemn occasion that paid tribute to these talented players who have raised the Cameroonian flag high across the African continent.
The Cameroonian presidential couple personally honoured the Indomitable Lionesses on August 22 2026 at Unity Palace, celebrating their historic victory on August 16 2026 in Morocco, where they defeated Malawi 3–0 in the final of the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. President Paul Biya particularly praised the outstanding journey of these accomplished players, presenting them as models of excellence and major sources of inspiration for the younger generation.
The nation, through my voice, expresses its deepest gratitude to you today. This gratitude naturally extends to your technical staff, who have done an extraordinary job. Dear Indomitable Lionesses, on several occasions in the past, you reached the final of this competition. Unfortunately, the trophy had always eluded you. But you did not become discouraged. You picked yourselves up, you applied yourselves, you remained focused. You tried, tried again and again. And finally, you won. Your exemplary journey should be a source of inspiration for our people, and particularly for our youth.
Paul Biya, President of the Republic
The President of the Republic awarded decorations to the Indomitable Lionesses and their staff. This state honour crowns their first-ever continental title, as well as their qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
More demanding challenges lie ahead. I therefore urge you to persevere in your efforts, whilst remaining disciplined, united and supportive of one another. For its part, the Government will continue to provide you with the support you need.
Paul Biya, President of the Republic
We would like to express our immense and boundless gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic for the gesture he has made towards the Lionesses by providing them with these beautiful homes. Thank you to everyone. We will now begin preparing for the next World Cup. It won’t be easy, but we also know that with your love and support, we will nurture our ambition to go very, very far.
Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation
This official celebration of the Indomitable Lionesses at the highest level of the State thus firmly establishes these champions as national icons. For the Cameroonian Head of State, this sporting triumph is the result of discipline, team spirit and solidarity — values that embody Cameroon’s pursuit of excellence.
