Cameroon : Runners from 6 African countries expected in Bagofit for the Chantal Biya International Mountain Bike Race

The first edition of the Chantal Biya International Mountain Bike Race will take place on August 30, 2025, in Bagofit, Haut-Nyong. Sixty riders from six African countries, including Cameroon, will take part in a competition on the UCI calendar.

Cameroon, the host country of the first edition of the Chantal Biya International Mountain Bike Race, will enter 28 riders divided into four teams, including athletes from the national road cycling team. They will compete against 32 cyclists from Morocco, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, the Central African Republic, and Chad. Each delegation will field its best riders, with a balanced distribution between women and men, for a total field of 60 riders in the Elite categories.

Around the sporting competition, Bagofit will vibrate to the rhythm of a rich program of activities. The International Fair for Living Together will be held from August 26 to 30, 2025, while a sports and patriotic march will enliven the streets of Abong-Mbang the day before the race. The Bagofit Sun City complex has already begun preparations to welcome riders, officials, and special guests, with the gradual arrival of delegations starting this August 26.

And that it has appointed the international commissaire, a South African who will arrive in Cameroon on August 27, 2025. Minister Joseph Lé, an elite athlete from the Eastern region, is co-organizing the competition with the Cameroon Cycling Federation. »

The official launch of the race, scheduled for August 30 at 11 a.m. at the Jean Sembong Stadium in Bagofit, under the presidency of the Minister of Sports, Professor Narcisse Mouellé Kombi, will be punctuated by speeches from local authorities, the President of the Cameroonian Cycling Federation, and international partners. Frenchman Nicolas Philippon, photo finish operator, and South African Hendrico Burger, president of the jury of commissaires, will ensure the technical regularity of this competition, which promises to be thrilling in the heart of the equatorial forest.
