The Cameroonian Army is not only considered as a shield to protect the integrity of the territory but it is extended to other fields such as research, economic and social development, and health. Thus, the participation of Defence Forces in the economic and social development of the Nation constitutes the base of the link between the Army and the Nation.
In Cameroon, the Military Engineering Corps is both a branch of the Army and a service. From its creation until 2001, the Military Engineering Corps participated in the consolidation of the Army-Nation link in several sectors. Some of them are the rehabilitation of the Cameroon Children’s Institute in Betamba, the construction of modern markets in Bertoua and Sangmelima, the development of tracks in the Ndonko production basin and the construction of sixteen productive boreholes equipped with human-powered pumps on behalf of the C2D in the Far North region.
Cameroon has an army for development, an army that participates on a daily basis in the consolidation of the free movement of goods and people, and therefore in the strengthening of the national economic fabric. This is demonstrated by the military engineers who, in addition to their daily missions, are involved in major construction projects, roads, hospitals and dispensaries.

Moreover, Military health contributes to the development of the nation of Cameroon by providing quality health care. So far, the military covers all ten regions of the country in bridging the medical gap with some of the most vulnerable populations. They implement health programs that include disease surveillance, nutrition activities, prevention and treatment of violence against women and girls, mental health and psychosocial support.
This is evidenced by the fact that the military hospitals and infirmaries cater for 90% of the civilian population and only 10% of the military. We must definitively acknowledge that the Cameroonian army is the army of the people, for the people and at the service of the people.
