Congo : 94 million Euros to extend the Corniche

Cooperation between the Republic of Congo and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) has entered a new phase. The two parties signed financing agreements in Brazzaville covering the extension of the Corniche road in the southern part of the capital and an increase in Congo’s contribution to the African Solidarity Fund. These projects, considered key for the economy and urban mobility, represent a total investment of 94 million Euros.

The Republic of Congo and BADEA signed two financing agreements on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, at the Kintélé International Conference Centre, for a total amount of 94 million Euros. The first agreement concerns an increase in the capital of the African Solidarity Fund, amounting to 14 million Euros. This financing aims to strengthen the fund’s guarantee capacity in order to further support access to financing for economic actors and the private sector. The second relates to the project to extend the Corniche road in southern Brazzaville, financed to the tune of 80 million Euros. The objective is to improve urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in this rapidly expanding area.

«This operation reflects our shared focus on strengthening infrastructure, promoting economic resilience, improving access to finance and support sustainable development. BADEA remains fully committed to support the Republic of Congo in achieving its development objective. We look forward to further strengthening our partnership and working closely with your government and deliver impactful and sustainable development outcomes for the Congolese people. »

Abdullah Kh. Al Musaibeeh , President of BADEAKuwait

For the Congolese side, represented notably by Vice Prime Minister Jean-Jacques Bouya and Finance Minister Christian Yoka, strengthening the African Solidarity Fund will primarily help boost private sector financing and diversify the drivers of national investment.

“Taken together, these projects will make BADEA one of our most important multilateral partners, with a total amount approaching 500 million US dollars. That is no small figure, and we can only welcome this cooperation. The second project, as you mentioned, concerns the increase in the capital of the African Solidarity Fund, which is obviously essential, as it involves strengthening support for the private sector and the banking sector.”

Christian YOKA, Minister of Finance, Budget and Public PortfolioCongo

A partner of the Congo since 1975, BADEA is reaffirming, through these new agreements, a cooperation that has lasted more than five decades with the Republic of the Congo. Since the beginning of this partnership, the institution has financed sixteen operations in the country for an estimated amount of nearly 140 million Euros, in key sectors such as agriculture, water, health, industry, and infrastructure development
