Côte d’Ivoire : about a dozen political parties propose the creation of a High Electoral Council

A dozen Ivorian political parties have proposed the creation of a High Electoral Council (HCE), replacing the Independent Electoral Commission recently dissolved. Presented in Abidjan by Simone Ehivet Gbagbo, the proposal outlines an 11-member body drawn from civil society and appointed through a call for applications. The signatory parties are calling for a government response and a debate on electoral system reform, while excluding any involvement of political parties in the future structure.
