Côte-d'Ivoire and Gabon intensify ties

Gabonese transition president Brice Oligui Nguema arrived in Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday April 11. Warmly welcomed by Ivorian president Alassane Ouattara, the Gabonese transition leader expressed his gratitude to the Ivorian president for his support for the inclusive national dialogue in Gabon and the fruitful relationship between Gabon and Côte d’Ivoire.

As part of a seventy-two hour working and friendship visit to Côte d’Ivoire, the president of the Gabonese transition, General Brice Oligui Nguema, was received in Abidjan on Thursday April 11 by President Alassane Ouattara. The president of the Gabonese transition expressed his gratitude to the Ivorian president for his support for the inclusive national dialogue underway in Gabon. President Alassane Ouattara reiterates his congratulations to General Brice Oligui Nguema.

This first official friendship and working visit to the West African country by the president of Gabon’s transitional government is expected to consolidate economic and social cooperation and open up the Gabonese market to Ivorian companies.

Our discussions also focused on strengthening South-South cooperation, by opening up the Gabonese market to Ivorian companies with their proven expertise in various fields. Côte d’Ivoire and Gabon have enjoyed excellent relations of friendship and sharing since 1966. At the end of the meeting, the two leaders pledged to further intensify economic and trade exchanges between their two countries, which, according to official figures, reached more than ten billion CFA francs in 2022.
