Major challenges now lie ahead for Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, at the head of a country that is rich in oil but whose economy is in trouble. Among the main concerns are the ageing electricity network, which is causing numerous power cuts, youth unemployment approaching 40%, road infrastructure that is either non-existent or in a state of disrepair, and the country’s debt, which could reach 80% of GDP by 2025.

In social terms, I am aware that there are many expectations:Health, education, access to water and energy, housing, the fight against the high cost of living, job insecurity and security are at the heart of my concerns ‘Building quality infrastructure – roads, bridges, railways, energy facilities – are all essential actions to be taken.
