The Grand N’Gongui oil field was brought into production on April 12, 2026, in the Ogooué-Maritime province. With an initial capacity of 10,000 barrels per day, or nearly 3.8 million barrels per year, this major project strengthens a sector that accounts for about 68% of Gabon’s exports. It is part of a national strategy to revive and sustainably develop oil resources.

The Grand N’Gongui oil field was officially brought into production on April 12, 2026, marking a major milestone for Gabon’s energy sector. Located in the Ogooué-Maritime province, this deposit has an initial estimated production of 10,000 barrels per day, or nearly 3.8 million barrels per year. Its development, completed in twelve months, is based on around 60 wells and infrastructure adapted to a complex lagoon environment.

I would like to congratulate you and say thank you. This progress would not have been possible without the commitment of the workers, technicians, and Gabonese engineers who work on our sites every day.

Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Republic

According to available technical data, the field is believed to contain oil in place volumes of up to 350 million barrels, with an oil column ranging between 10 and 15 meters. This new production strengthens a key sector of the national economy, where oil accounts for nearly 68% of exports. Despite a gradual decline, national production has decreased from around 240,000 barrels per day in 2008 to about 200,000 today.

Your expertise, determination, and patriotism form the foundation of this economic recovery.

Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Republic

Beyond oil, the mining and hydrocarbons sector remains a strategic pillar for Gabon, supported by reserves estimated at around 2 billion barrels. The exploitation of natural resources, particularly manganese and gold, makes a significant contribution to public revenue and economic diversification. In this context, the launch of the Grand N’Gongui field illustrates the authorities’ commitment to strengthening energy sovereignty and sustainably optimizing the development of the country’s mining potential.
