Ghana : inflation slows to 3.2% in March 2026

Ghana’s sustained drop in inflation signals an ongoing trend toward economic stabilisation, a welcome change after a period of intense volatility. While this improvement in macroeconomic indicators is notable, especially with crucial elections just months away, it stands in stark contrast to the persistent hardships still felt by the population. The situation is marked by a cautious market environment, coupled with optimism for a lasting economic recovery.

Ghana’s economy continues to stabilise: inflation fell for the 15th consecutive month, dropping to 3.2% in March from 3.3% in February 2026, according to official data. This slight decline is part of a sustained trend of disinflation, despite a context still marked by the aftermath of a recent crisis, including past high inflation, currency depreciation and high public debt.

What we can do is protect ourselves and take precautions. This means taking action to prevent the factors driving up the prices of goods and services from worsening. We must monitor these factors closely and manage what is within our control.

This improvement comes a few months after President John Dramani Mahama returned to power, having made the country’s economic growth one of his priorities, whilst the economy remains at the heart of concerns and political issues. In Accra, particularly at the Agbogbloshie market, difficulties persist, prompting traders and consumers to remain cautious despite more favourable indicators.

Inflation is not solely the result of money circulating among the public; it also depends on production.

However, the country is forecasting GDP growth of 5.6% in 2026, driven by a sustained recovery following reforms supported by the IMF. Furthermore, the budget deficit is expected to stabilise at around 2.7% of GDP over the period 2026–2029, compared with over 10% at the start of the decade.
