Mali has established the Malian Office for Precious Substances (OMASP), a new agency tasked with regulating and centralizing the marketing of gold, particularly from artisanal mining and small-scale mining operations. Placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the body aims to strengthen state control over mineral resources, improve the traceability of artisanal gold, and combat illicit trading networks as part of ongoing reforms to better harness the country’s mineral wealth.
