Mauritania – AfDB Presidency : Sidi Ould Tah, defender of economic integration

The president of BADEA, Sidi Ould Tah, is the lucky Mauritanian candidate for the post of president of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB). His candidacy is also arousing growing enthusiasm among observers and economic analysts. Recognized as an influential player in the African and international financial spheres, he is seen as one of the most serious contenders for this strategic function. With his know-how and experience within African multilateral institutions, he positions himself as a fervent defender of economic integration and structural transformation of the African continent.

Economist, expert in development strategies and with several years of experience in public administration, international and regional development banks, the president of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) Sidi Ould Tah wishes to share his knowledge -do at the African continent’s level. It is in this spirit that he ran for the post of president of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group for a 5-year mandate. He also wishes to strengthen infrastructure, encourage entrepreneurship and innovation, promote sustainable development and strengthen financial inclusion.

While african countries are increasingly tending to industrialize with a view to create added value to their exports, the GDP growth of the African continent is estimated at 3.7% in 2024, and is expected at 4.3% in 2025 according to the AfDB. With a rich and diversified career, Sidi Ould Tah, in running for the presidency of the AfDB, wishes to share both  his theoretical and practical experience. Holder of a doctorate in economics, he has held several high-level positions, including that of Minister of Economy and Finance in Mauritania. He played a key role in implementing bold economic policies, contributing to macroeconomic stability and the promotion of foreign direct investment in his country.

As president of BADEA for 5 years, he has distinguished himself by his visionary leadership. Under his leadership, BADEA has strengthened its strategic partnerships and increased its initiatives to support the financing of sustainable development in sub-Saharan Africa. Moreover, under his leadership, in December 2024 BADEA unveiled an $18.375 billion plan to accelerate Africa’s development.
