Memorandum of understanding signed between the Africa24 Media Group and the AfCFTA Secretariat

The Africa24 media group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the AfCFTA Secretariat on 22 July 2024. This agreement aims to promote the projects of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and to add value to African businesses, in a context where Africa loses more than 75% of its agricultural production every year. Since 2009, Africa24 has been working to change the narrative about Africa, reaching over 90 million households and with more than 8 million online subscribers. The group is committed to producing content to boost intra-African trade, which has already risen by 7.5% to 192 billion dollars by 2023. The ‘African Union Newspaper’, broadcast since January 2022, has been a key element of the partnership with the African Union since March 2019.

In its fifteenth year of existence, the leading media group Africa 24 has reached a new milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on 22 July 2024. Against a backdrop where Africa loses more than 75% of its agricultural production every year, the agreement aims to promote the priority projects of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Made in Africa, as well as enhancing the value of African commercial enterprises.

“Yes, Africa is trading! I believe as Africans we must be extremely proud because there is no other trade agreement in the World that has captured all of the development aspirations that we have. It doesn’t exist anywhere in the World”.

Wamkele MENE, Secretary General of the AfCFTASouth Africa

Since 2009, the Africa24 media group has taken up part of the challenge of changing the way African news is told. Today, through its four television channels, the Africa24 media group reaches more than 90 million households and has more than 8 million subscribers on its digital platforms. The audiovisual group is committed to producing high-impact multi-media content with the aim of strengthening trade between African countries through close collaboration with AfCFTA experts

“We should go out and be able to promote that. I think part of the challenge today  is communication, information and knowledge. So, we should have registers that contain all the companies and we should promote the fact that if you have a problem with oil and gas, you have a refinery of Dangote close to you.”

Constant NEMALE , Founder of the AFRICA24 GroupCameroon

Since AfCFTA was set up, intra-African trade has grown by 7.5%, reaching 192 billion dollars in 2023. This performance is regularly reported by the Africa 24 media group on its channels, notably through the ‘Journal de l’Union africaine’, broadcast in French and English since January 2022. This programme is an anchor of the partnership between Africa 24 Media Group and the African Union since 27 March 2019.
