Morocco has exceeded its tourism target, reaching 17.4 million visitors by the end of 2024 – two years ahead of the 2026 goal. New data released by the country’s tourism ministry, shows that the number represents a 20% increase compared to 2023, amounting to nearly three million additional tourists. Adnen Chaouachi has more.
Morocco’s 2024 numbers mark a 20 percent rise from 2023 and a more than 33 percent increase from pre-pandemic 2019 levels, when the country welcomed 13 million tourists. This surge has also put Morocco two years ahead of its tourism projections. The Country has exceeded its tourism target, reaching 17.4 million visitors by the end of 2024 – two years ahead of the 2026 goal.The historic achievement of the tourism industry in the North African country is the result of targeted investments by the authorities. Tourism plays a vital role in Morocco’s economy, accounting for about 7% of GDP.
Now, thanks to these results, this programme and this ambitious plan, our country has become the first tourist destination in Africa. We have achieved the 2026 objectives two years ahead of schedule.

To continue attracting tourists, Morocco has expanded air routes to key markets in the Gulf region, Europe, Asia and North America. The North African Kingdom is now preparing to co-host the 2030 World Cup along with Spain and Portugal. Morocco’s objective for 2030 is to attract 26 million tourists.
