The French Foreign Ministry’s map was updated on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, removing the demarcation between Morocco and Western Sahara. This realignment of the French position has paved the way for a 3-day state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to Rabat, Morocco.
The official map of the Kingdom of Morocco incorporating the Western Sahara was published on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, on the official website of the Quai d’Orsay. This follows French President Emmanuel Macron’s reiteration, on Tuesday October 29, 2024, of France’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, as stated as follow in a correspondence dated July 30, 2024 that “the present and future of the ‘Western’ Sahara must be considered within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty”. This initiative is in line with the impetus given by King Mohammed VI to the national cause, and reinforces international recognition of Morocco’s position on this crucial issue.

This official map published by France supports this vision, while sending a strong message to the international community about Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara, already recognized by over 110 countries worldwide.

Although marked by challenges, cooperation between Morocco and France has entered a new era and experienced a new dynamic. On Monday, October 28, 2024, 22 agreements worth a total of 10 billion euros were signed in Rabat by Moroccan King Mohammed VI and his counterpart, French President Emmanuel Macron. These agreements form part of a strengthened exceptional partnership.
