Sénégal: Parliament adopts constitutional amendment bill

The National Assembly adopted, by a majority vote, a constitutional revision bill backed by the ruling party Party of African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity (PASTEF), aimed at rebalancing powers between the President and the Prime Minister and strengthening the role of Parliament. The text, which amends more than thirty articles and provides notably for the creation of a Constitutional Court, was passed without the government’s proposed amendments, during a session marked by the withdrawal of the opposition and tensions on the sidelines of the debates.
